Artistic Statement
Elise’s Creative Works encompasses the range of my artistic pursuits. As a multi-medium artist, I primarily work in acrylics, ceramics, fabric, and rubber block prints. Across all mediums, I pull influence from nature – especially flora, animals, and humans – as well as design principles from the art nouveau and maximalism styles of art and design. I am also a fan of Japanese-influenced kawaii culture, and that often shows up in elements of my art. There is also exploration of mysticism and altered-states in many of the pieces. In my works, I like to explore emotions and experiences through the creative processes, though there are also times I make
work just for fun or because I want to explore the concept visually. Sometimes, I also make art that physically feels good to make; for example, I deeply enjoy the physical act of painting swirls or carving away materials. Some of my artwork is deeply personal, including works related to chronic health conditions or family/friends, but other works explore emotions more broadly as
part of the human – and especially female – experience.
